Sunset trip with Catamaran Cruises & JP Henry Charters

Living on the West of the island, I just can’t believe that the sunset cruise experience was something I had only recently discovered. Yes, Catamaran Cruises and the guys down at JP Henry located at La Balise in Black River organise many day and overnight boat trips around the island, big game fishing and swimming with dolphin outings which we have experienced before, but I must say I think this one is my new favourites…

We opted for a private cruise, but you can also share the boat with others just like the day trips which makes the cost very reasonable! We went on the Madiana 3 (14 persons) the slightly smaller version of the Madiana 1 (25 persons) and Madiana 2 (28 persons) catamarans, but it gave plenty of room as we were only a handful of seafarers. The boats are beautifully conditioned and up to a fantastic standard, with an inside seating area, outside bar seats and trampoline at the front. The staff are wonderfully welcoming and professionally trained. We’ve been on many catamaran trips in Mauritius and these guys really give a great level of service.

As the boat makes it’s way out of the Marina, the sails come down to make sure everyone can enjoy cruising without the noise of the engine. Once out to sea, the cruise gently ambles around to give plenty of time to take in the gorgeous landscape of the West Coast, with views from Tamarin down to Le Morne drifting from vivid greens into the shadows as the sun begins to set. At this time of the evening, the changing colours of the sky give the perfect canvas to relax in front of. A moment to enjoy some peace and tranquility of the clear waters of the lagoon. You’re free to jump in too if you are feeling adventurous!

During the trip, the crew prepare the on-boat charcoal BBQ, rustling up some fresh chicken and fish skewers and a plate of spicy chorizo, brought to you piping hot and with a selection of sauces. After a drink or two (did I mention its free flowing drinks…?) you forget about that life on land you left behind. Now you’re a master of the seas!

The sunset cruise is also the ideal activity for those who would like to go on a shorter trip during the evening, when the sun is not at its peak. And what’s more, when the time comes to depart after relaxing on board for a couple of hours with drinks, food, music and stunning views, it’s still only around 7pm…the perfect time to carry on enjoying Mauritius with a spot of dinner.

Husband to be!!

The Sunset Cruise offered by JPH in partnership with Catamaran Cruises is run everyday from 5 – 7 pm, and costs approximately 1500 MUR a person. The full boat is also available for private hire. Please quote Mauritius Unwrapped for 10% off your experience.

I love spring asparagus wrapped in prosciutto as well, but never thought to add the cream cheese! Thanks for the tip! Looks incredible.
